Louis Wells
I’m Louis Wells, a director, educator, and improviser with 25+ years of experience in long-form and applied improvisation. I founded El Enjambre Lab in Spain and previously led the Theatre Arts & Technology program at NJIT, where I built an award-winning improv curriculum and founded the Center for Applied Improvisation and Theatre. I also launched community programs like the Newark Improv Festival and the Newark Playwright Festival.
I’ve worked with Meta, Reddit, Havas Health, Teach For America, and university teams, and delivered a TEDx talkon improvisation. Currently, I serve as Vice President of the Applied Improvisation Network. My coaching centers on Narrative Immunity: helping people notice the stories shaping them, pause, and choose their response with clarity.
What I offer
1:1 Coaching
I keep a few spots open each month for individual coaching sessions. Each session is one hour on Zoom.
In our time together, we’ll combine practical exercises with focused conversation to move toward your goals. This isn’t theory — it’s live practice, drawn from 25+ years of directing, university teaching, and improvisation.
As a director, I’ve spent my career collaborating with actors to shape new narratives on stage. As a coach, I help you recognize the stories shaping your own choices — and build the freedom to step into them, reshape them, or set them aside.
This is for you if you want to:
-
Notice the stories influencing your decisions.
-
Create more space between stimulus and response.
-
Build clarity and confidence under pressure.
-
Explore new directions with curiosity, not fear.
I work with just a handful of clients each month to keep the work focused and personal.
